Citing the need to extend the payroll tax cuts, President Obama noted that because of the strengthening economy, gas prices would rise, which is why American's needed an extra $40 in their pockets.

"As the economy strengthens, global demand for oil increases, Obama said,  "And if we start seeing significant increases in gas prices, losing that $40 could not come at a worse time."

Obama introduced the press to a local entrepreneur named Thierry, who would struggle under higher gas prices if he lost that $40 tax break.

"'$40,' he wrote, 'means a heckuva lot,'" said Obama, quoting Thierry's letter,

"Means a heckuva lot," Obama repeated, "That's what this debate is all about, this is what's at stake for millions of Americans this is why it matters to people, it means a heckuva lot."

As he did in December, Obama asked people to once again tweet what $40 means to them, using the hashtag #40dollars.
