"Michigan has been my home," Romney says in a new ad released today, "This is personal."
The ad features Romney driving in a car explaining childhood memories of Michigan, in an attempt to appeal to voters in that state.
"I am a son of Detroit. I was born in Harper Hospital and lived in the city until my family moved to Oakland County," he wrote in a Detroit News op-ed this morning, "I grew up drinking Vernors and watching ballgames at Michigan & Trumbull. Cars got in my bones early. And not just any cars, American cars."
According to yesterday's PPP poll of the state, 62 percent of Michiganders do not consider Romney a Michigander - only 26 percent do - suggesting that he will have to do more than highlight his ties to the state to earn their vote.
