Gayle King recently sat down with Michelle Obama for an interview that aired on CBS's "This Morning." When asking questions about Jodi Kantor's book "The Obamas," -- which paints an unflattering picture of the First Lady -- King was rather sympathetic.
"I think we should say, it's no secret at the table, that we're friends." King said, adding that the interview had been scheduled in advance but she was worried the First Lady would cancel after details of the book were released.
King is also considered Oprah Winfrey's best friend, hosting a show on Oprah's cable network before joining CBS. Prior to the interview, Winfrey tweeted "ROCK STEADY this is your moment!" to King prior to the interview.
King said she was pleased that the interview wasn't canceled and she was not told to avoid questions about the book.
"She answered every single question." King marveled, "You know, she has not read the book, she doesn't intend to read the book." and added, "I think it's frustrating to her to see so many untruths."
King read the book, but thought many parts of it was not true.
"I'm thinking, I was there, that didn't happen, that didn't happen, that didn't happen, King said. "She never told Carla Bruni Sarkosy that living in the White House was hell, quite the opposite of how she feels."
