In 2007, Speaker Nancy Pelosi gave a dramatic speech highlighting the alarming skyrocketing gas prices, citing a $3.07 national average and, at the time, the astonishing price of $3.49 a gallon in her district.
"Drivers are paying a heavy price for the Bush administrations failure to enact comprehensive energy strategy," said Pelosi, vowing to take America in a new direction to bring down the cost of gas and promote energy independence.
Pelosi's speech included several Democratic talking points, similar to the ones used by President Obama yesterday, highlighting the need to end subsidies for big oil and reinvest in alternative energy and ending our dependence on foreign oil.
